Abstract:It is reported that Qualcomm will enroll in TD-SCDMA chip market….
It is reported that Qualcomm will enroll in TD-SCDMA chip market. Paul Jacob, the CEO of Qualcomm announced in Hongkong that they will launch a new TD-LTE chip in China market. It is guessed that TD-LTE chip might be developed by Suzhou ASTwireless.
TD chip vendor COMMIT stopped their operation and splited into two companies which are Suzhou ASTwireless and Shanghai DIGIMOC. DIGIMOC was purchased by Taiwan M-Mstar. M-Mstar announced that they will enter TD-SCDMA market in 2010. Due to governement’s positive policy in TD market, Qualcomm is confident in the market potenial. Though acquisition of ASTwireless, they obviously involved in TD-SCDMA market. Untill now, the sales volume of TD terminal reached 2 millions. It is expected that the number will exceed 50,000 in November. The total sales volume will exceed 3 millions in 2009. According to the expectation for January 2010, the purchases muber of TD cellphone will be grater the total sales number of 2009, which is good news for Qualcomm.
The merge of COMMIT, ASTwireless and Qualcomm turning the market into a international race. In addition, the market competation will more fierce than before.
The enrollment of Qualcomm and Marvel will be positive for TD market development, at the same time, it puts more pressure on domestic TD chip vendors. From the trend of current development, China mobile will go on into smart Ophone market after its low-price cellphone strategy.
